Meet Joselyn ๐๐ฝ!
This high school freshman is a lover of science who hates the sight of blood and the smell of rubbing alcohol. Despite this, you can find her volunteering at the hospital, but mostly in the nursery and gift shopโas she gets 10% off packs of Welch's Fruit Snacks. After noticing a few too many patients with the same symptoms but few commonalities, she goes on an epidemiologic adventure to figure out what is making the people in her small town sick before it spreads further at the State Fair.

Reviews like this absolutely warm my heart. I love hearing that children can see themselves in my book. Diversity in books is needed and creating inclusive literature is essential!

How Itโs Going vs. How It Started
Photoshopped one of my favorite #illustrations by @ilustracje_daniel_wlodarski and made it my lock screen. Absolutely looooove this silly illustration of Yonka๐. Check out the surreal how it started vs. how itโs going!

This book is well-written and illustrated. My kids and I love all the ideas of different science career options. I took this book to a career day for my 5th grader and loved seeing the kid's faces as they flipped through it. They can see themselves in this book since there is such a diverse representation of people who are scientists. Since I am a scientist I am so happy to finally see this being shown for all our kids to see themselves represented. Outstanding book by Jayda Abrams!

โจLeaving Amazon Reviewsโจ
Part of an email I got from a colleague yesterday ๐! I hope this family loves and enjoys the book! I also hope they leave a review on โจAmazonโจ. Leaving Amazon reviews for books like The Scientist In Me is a great way to support authors while demonstrating that more people are interested in seeing women/girls of color in STEM!

A curious trendโฆ
Years ago, as I embarked on my teaching journey, I couldn't help but notice a curious trend. Itโs often easier to stumble upon a story starring an animal protagonist than one highlighting a vibrant character of color. The chances of finding a book like this become even slimmer when searching for female characters of color, in the STEM field, with intersectional and unique identities. This is just one of the reasons The Scientist In Me: STEM Careers A-Z was my first book. Am I saying I will never publish a book with an animal protagonist? No! Animals are cute, creative, and a friendly way to teach children about complicated subjects. BUUUUT it is still super important to write and create childrenโs literature with main characters that represent people of color. I hope that as I continue writing, I can grow to create stories from both human and non-human perspectives teaching students about the amazing world of science.

โจDecember Updateโจ
New author headshot! Got a good bit of writing done today and am excited to hit my writing goal of โจ3 books by 30โจ! Getting all three published by 30 is another storyโฆ The new goal is to have the last manuscript done by the end of 2023. Illustrations for the second book start next week! ๐ฅณ
